![]() ![]() William Dick was killed as he was taking the payroll to Oakview. On the night of September 28 Damos waylaid Kaklis as he was going home and shot him four times. Nick Kaklis was the man killed and Kaklis, when he left Walsenburg, made a statement that Damos would kill him if he could ever find out where he was going. His life was a beautiful gift to all of us, and we will always be grateful to our Lord for his presence. They would often proclaim his merits by informing us all that “My daddy can fix anything!” He was their teacher, their admirer and their “sticker-puller-outer.” To his wife, he was best friend, lover and soul companion. He was a hero to his children, a gentle disciplinarian and a loving father. He loved his country and served faithfully and bravely when he was drafted in 1951, serving his two- year term in Korea. George was a man of many facets: a dedicated and respected inspector in the guided missile program at the Pueblo Army Depot for 36 years a skilled woodworker an avid fisherman and hunter a true nature-lover a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Lennie and his children, Cathy (Michael) Coatney, Rosalie (Jim) Glenn, Chuck (Sara) Kakalecik seven grandchildren and five great-children. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Opal Kakalecik his half brother, Clifford Bartell and his sister, Dorothy Mayer. George was born in Walsenburg, Colo., on June 15, 1931. The family thanks the staff at Life Care Center and Sangre de Cristo Hospice for the excellent care they gave Kurt. Kurt was a member of the Pueblo German Club and the Optimist Club of Pueblo. They enjoyed their grandchildren and great-grandchildren and many friends. In 2001, he and his wife immigrated to Pueblo to be closer to their remaining family. His efforts earned him the Federal Cross of Merit from the German government. He was very active in his community, especially the Schuetzenverein (shooting club) and the local senior center. Kurt was a master stonemason and sculpturer and he and his wife worked together in their business in Cologne (Koeln) Germany for many years. Kurt was born in Stettin, Germany (now part of Poland), to Friedrich and Emma Kaehler on Nov. Preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Johanne “Hanna” Kaehler son, Horst Kaehler and sister, Karla Strecker. Survived by his daughter, Dagmar (Reimar) von Kalben of Pueblo grandchildren, Stephan (Nicoll) von Kalben and Gytha (Karl) Hinkle great-grandchildren, Parker von Kalben and his mother, Lisa von Kalben, Austin Hinkle, Jenna Hinkle and Annika Hinkle. Joyously passed the days till disease laid his hand on the bride of a few weeks and closed the life that had just opened to its choicer treasures. She arrived in April and a month later the two were united in wedlock. The two were engaged in the Fatherland and when the lover felt able to support a wife he sent for her to come.
